Mocha Joe’s began working with Finca Monte Negro, located in Concepción Las Minas, Guatemala, during the 2015/2016 harvest season. A region with a mining history dating back to colonial times, Concepción Las Minas had been stripped of its landscape, in addition to its valuable minerals. In 1983, ten years after the last transnational mining corporation ceased operating in the region, the land had recovered enough for Rene Bezas to establish a small coffee plantation. Currently, Rene cultivates 15 hectares of coffee, including Caturra, Catuai, and Pacamara varieties.

Mocha Joe’s currently purchases Rene’s entire production. Additionally, we have been helping him to experiment with improved harvesting and on-farm processing techniques to discover which techniques improve quality and add value to his crop.
